Nucrush Group wins Highly Commended, Employer of Choice Award

Posted on Fri, 11 Dec 09

On Wednesday 11th November the Nucrush Group was awarded Highly Commended in the Employer of Choice category of the national Australian Mining Prospect Awards.

Nucrush was competing against some of the largest mining companies within Australia such as Alcoa of Australia; CDE Capital; MMG Century and Rio Tinto Coal Australia and are extremely pleased with the national recognition.

Rio Tinto Coal Australia won the award overall with Nucrush Group coming Highly Commended within the category.  This award recognises how a mine has successfully attracted, trained and retained staff through innovative and unique strategies that promote the company as an employer of choice.

Nucrush Group employs over 65 full time staff including quarry workers, truck drivers, administration staff, concrete batchers and loader operators.  Nucon Concrete also contracts 60 full time lorry owner drivers (concrete truck drivers) across its eight concrete plants from Ballina to Logan.

The average age of Nucrush Group employees is 44 years and with an average length of service being 5.89 years.  Actually, its longest serving employee has been with the company for 28 years!

Operating within the mining and constructing industry the Safety, Health and Environment Management (SHEM) of the Group’s employees is extremely important.  Employees are expected to participate in and are therefore rewarded for their involvement in our SHEM program.

Throughout 2008, Nucrush Group had approximately 27 full-time employees undertaking Australian Government apprenticeship courses, such as:

  • Certificate III Transport and Distribution;
  • Certificate III Extractive Industries;
  • Certificate III Financial Services; and
  • Mechanic apprenticeship.

The Nucrush Group also offers its employees other benefits such as participating in various Health & Wellbeing Programmes.  This includes annual flu vaccinations; Quarry Workers bi-annual health assessments; Summer Fitness Awareness Campaign; Private Health Insurance Corporate Rates & Membership; Employee Assistance Programme etc.  Our Good Neighbour Programme (as mentioned above) involves working closely with local residents, the business community and schools on educational projects such as: tree planting mornings; school resources project; annual Quarry Open Day; donations and sponsorships of sporting teams.

For a small-medium sized company, the Nucrush Group offers employees a range of programs to ensure that the job satisfaction and morale are as high as possible.  We believe that having a job isn’t just that!  You should enjoy what you do, who you work with and feel part of a team.
